About Rascal Media

Rascal Media was founded in 2011 to celebrate the picturebook through ebooks, apps, and animation. Rascal created the award-winning iPad app, The King’s Ears, as well as numerous animated trailers for children’s books. Clients include The Blue Sky Press (Scholastic), North South Books, Groundwood Books, Tradewind Books, Simply Read Books, Creston Books, Red Deer Press.

Founder Cynthia Nugent (MA, Children’s Literature) is an award-winning children’s book author-illustrator and animator who teaches picturebook illustration at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She has published numerous children’s books and her Mister Got to Go trilogy is considered a Canadian classic. She is a three-time winner of both the Chocolate Lily award and the VEPVPA Choice for her picturebook illustrations, as well as the recipient of the Time to Read: BC Achievement Foundation Award for Early Literacy for The Aunts Come Marching. She has been profiled in print and broadcast media, and is a much-requested visitor to schools and libraries for her lively presentations on the making of a children’s book.
